Event Information

Join APAGOA and celebrate National Shooting Sports Month at Burro Canyon Shooting Park on Saturday August 23 and Sunday August 24.

Bring your .22LR and 9mm pistols and PCCs, and .223 or 5.56 long guns. Paper targets will be available but please feel free to bring your own (no steel targets).

If you do not have a firearm there will be a limited number of firearms that you can try.


Schedule

  • Saturday August 23
    • 9:30 am (or later) → Check in at the range office then head to East 2A 
    • 10:00 am → Intro to Pistol Shooting session #1
    • 10:00 am→ Live fire starts
    • 12:30 pm → Live fire ends
    • 1:00 pm → Intro to Pistol Shooting session #2
    • 1:00 pm→ Live fire starts
    • 3:30 pm → Live fire ends
  • Sunday August 24
    • 9:30 am (or later) → Check in at the range office then head to East 2A 
    • 10:00 am → Intro to Pistol Shooting session #1
    • 10:00 am→ Live fire starts
    • 12:30 pm → Live fire ends
    • 1:00 pm → Intro to Pistol Shooting session #2
    • 1:00 pm→ Live fire starts
    • 3:30 pm → Live fire ends

What to Bring / What to Wear

Weather at the range is expected to be hot and mostly sunny, reaching temperatures as high as 97F. Please plan accordingly. 

What to Bring:

  • Ear and eye protection will be available to everyone that needs it
  • Your firearm (pistol, PCC, or rifle) 
  • Ammunition (no steel core, steel jacket, or bi-metal ammunition)
  • Sunscreen
  • Folding chair 
  • Snacks, food, and non-alcoholic drinks
  • Optional — EZ-Up tent or other shade
  • Optional — Target frames (e.g., 1x2s), target stands, and paper targets

What to wear (and not to wear):

  • Long sleeved or short sleeved shirt; avoid low cut, v-neck, or tank tops
  • Long pants are recommended
  • Closed toed shoes; avoid sandals or other open toed shoes
  • Hat

Range Rules

Range Specific Rules

  1. Always follow staff or range safety officer directions. Range safety officers have final say on the range.
  2. No steel core, steel jacket, or bi-metal ammunition is allowed due to fire restrictions. 
  3. We will be shooting .22LR, 9mm, and .223 / 5.56. 
  4. Experienced shooters are welcome to use their holsters while on the private range. 
  5. Paper or cardboard targets only, no steel targets. 
  6. Target frames must be untreated wood or PVC tubing only and cannot contain any type of metal or plywood.

General Safety Rules

  1. Treat every gun like it is loaded.  
  2. Always point the gun in a safe direction.  
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are aimed and ready to shoot. 
  4. Be sure of your target and what is behind it. 
  5. Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times while on the range. 
  6. Children must be supervised; minors follow the same safety rules.
  7. No alcohol or drugs before or during shooting.
  8. When sharing a range with other shooters, be sure to be shooting from the same distance and the firing line will be fixed.
  9. When you need to move down range, make sure everyone on the range is aware of your intent and be sure that everyone has their firearms unloaded and clear before moving down range. 
  10. While people are down range, do not handle any firearm until everyone is back on the firing line and everyone agrees to make the range hot again.
