Intro to Safe Handgun Training – August 22, 2021

The Asian Pacific American Gun Owners Association is excited to bring you an in-person training event, Intro To Safe Handgun Training. Our team of skilled trainers will help new or soon to be new gun owners learn how to operate their handgun safely and responsibly.

Instructors
Lead Instructor: Amy Dillon

Amy Dillon is a former Marine Corps Drill Instructor and Combat Marksmanship Instructor, serving 12 years active-duty. In addition to her military certifications, Amy is certified as a Concealed Weapons Permit Instructor by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, State of Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification, and Georgia Carry Organization. She is also a firearms instructor and Chief Range Safety Officer certified by the National Rifle Association, as well as a Personal Safety Academy Instructor for the SABRE Civilian Safety Awareness Program. Amy is committed to pursuing her goals in the Firearms Industry and Legal Community. As a freelance writer, Amy regularly contributes articles related to gun laws and gun topics to various media publications.

Top Shot Chris Cheng

Top Shot Chris Cheng is a sport shooter and The History Channel’s Top Shot Season 4 Champion. A graduate of UCLA, Chris has shot in Multi-Gun, USPSA, IDPA, and IPSC competitions. Cheng is a Lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and is an NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun Instructor.

Rick Tran

Born and raised in Vietnam, Rick Tran came to the United States when he was 13 and entered law enforcement at the age of 30. Rick began shooting as part of his law enforcement job and enjoyed it so much that he competed in USPSA with his duty gear. In 2016 Rick became a certified firearms instructor with the FBI. Rick is a Glock and Colt armorer and is also a vehicle CQB instructor. He is a proud father of two girls and his life goal now is to raise them to shoot professionally.

Joey

Born in Kyoto, Japan, Joey is a graduate of UCLA, majoring in Geography with a minor in Asian Languages and Cultures. Joey was a patrol officer with the LAPD, winning awards for top recruit and top shooter. He is currently a police officer in the California Bay Area with a primary assignment in patrol. Joey’s collateral duties include SWAT, firearms instructor, and first aid instructor. He is also an Army Reserve Company Commander. Joey has received training certifications through CATO and is a vehicle CQB instructor.


Timeline of events:
  • 9:30am – Official event start time with Welcome Remarks from Leadership Team.
  • 10:00am – 1:00pm – {OPTIONAL} Free workshops and seminars throughout the day. Feel free to attend while you wait for your training time! If not, please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled training time.
  • 10:00am – 11:00am – Group 1 Live Fire Training
  • 11:00am – 12:00pm – Group 2 Live Fire Training
  • 12:00pm – 1:00pm – Group 3 Live Fire Training
  • 1:00pm – 2:00pm – Lunch (Bring your own or purchase a lunch ticket)
  • 2:00pm – 4:00pm – Meet & Greet

What to Bring
  • Sunscreen and hat
  • Folding chair (recommended)
  • Water, snacks and a sack lunch or you may purchase a lunch ticket for $10.
  • Wear closed toed and heeled shoes. No tank tops or low cut tops while on the range.
  • Bring your unloaded 9mm or .22 pistol. {If you do not have a pistol, one will be provided for you}
  • Ammo will be provided for Live Fire Training. Each participant will receive a maximum of (25) rounds of 9mm and/or (10) rounds of .22.

Purchase your ticket for your preferred Live Fire Training time and if you would like, a lunch ticket. Please do not purchase a lunch ticket unless you are planning to participate in live fire training.
